The thai canal, also known as the kra canal, is a proposed mega maritime infrastructure project in southern thailand
The canal aims to link the andaman sea with the gulf of thailand by cutting through the narrowest part of the malay peninsula, the isthmus of kra. Thailand is seeking investors for a $28 billion landbridge across the isthmus of kra which would allow shipping bypass the busy sea route of malacca straits, reviving the centuries old kra. If built, it would connect the andaman sea to the gulf of thailand, significantly reducing shipping distances and saving vessels both time and fuel. This research will comprehensively analyze the kra isthmus canal’s agenda and its possible impacts on thailand and also to some other countries in asean, specifically for indonesia.
