Built in 2007 and looks to be in great condition I currently only have 1 kayak (i know, wtf 🙂 ), which is my slightly beaten up cd prana I’m wondering if this would be an interesting second boat, or would it be too similar to my prana (and. I have a capella 161 made in 2006 listed on p.com classified section It is a composite boat, just at 16 feet one inch long with 3 hatches I am happy to share addition pictures and provide measurements if they can assist your efforts to id the version you have an opportunity to purchase
P&h has a well earned reputation for very good build. Can anyone fill me in on the main differences between the older p&h capella rms and the new ones There are several older ones (used) for sale in area and they appear very similar to the current models except they only have 2 hatches/bulkheads rather than 3 The hatch covers also are squarish with rounded covers rather than round or oval I am mainly concerned about whether the older capellas. The capella is my playboat, and i think an excellent one
If you deploy the skeg, you have a whole new vehicle. Capella 173 for all around i am only a little smaller than you, and was looking at the same boats I am lucky go get to paddle with some very good paddlers, including two p&h team members (garth schmeck and bryan smith) Their advice was to go with the capella 173 and pad it out a bit, which i did. P&h’s current skeg system got rid of the cable, its called a “kink free” skeg slider system I have the delphin 155 as well as a pre 2007 capella (old, skeg cable system)
While they have eliminated the potential kinking problems with a skeg cable and made field repairs easier, there is a fly in the soup with the current system… retract the skeg, particularly in cold water situations. After some discussion on these forums about 6 weeks ago, i bought a new rm capella 166 as the next step up from my first kayak, an old town cayuga 146 I acquired an 2005 p&h capella rm kayak Unfortunately, it did not come with thigh braces or a skeg It has a cable housing for the skeg Has anyone installed a skeg
Also, i called the manufacturer (p&h, now pyranha) to ask about thigh braces I was told that they do not sell thigh braces that fit the 2005 capella anymore Does anyone have a design around. Howdy, i have a couple p&h cappella 166 sea kayaks from around 2001 They have discontinued the production of the thigh grips Any recommendations on what to replace them with
I happened to peruse the p&h website today and noted there is no mention of the corelite (polyethylene)160 and 166 models The four composite capellas are described, but not the 160 and 166 I wonder if these popular kayaks have been discontinued.
