This is assuming you are connected directly to your ups (ie usb) and windows is already seeing the battery levels. We only have 1 physical host (and we aren't planning to change that any time soon). If the power drain on the battery exceeds the remaining time on your scripted shutdown timer, the server powers off immediately
Other than those issues, if all you have is a script option, i believe it to be good to use. This occurs because the virtual machine is capable of detecting that the host is running on battery power, and therefore activates more aggressive power saving settings.
