With a population hovering near 30 million, latinas are both a vital base of support for the u.s Economy and—as we saw in th 2020 presidential election—critically influential as voters But even though their contributions bo. Ns that they are disproportionally hurt by the gender pay gap, economic insecurity and poor working condit. With this fact sheet, we hope to increase awareness of issues affecting latina victims of sexual assault
Latina girls reported that they were likely to stop attending school activities and sports to avoid sexual harassment (american association of university women, 2001). The latina hourly earnings gap and economic equity despite latinas’ rising educational attainment, the pay gap persists between latinas and most other workers This report focuses on latinas’ hourly earnings and the pay disparities between latinas and their white male peers. More than 40 percent of californians are latino, yet despite recent historic gains in the state legislature and in congress, at no level of government is the latino community adequately represented. This trope, which places a latina immigrant in a role of domestic servitude to white people, imbues the sassy latina with an underlying air of submission and an implicit desire to be accepted by white people as part of a version of the “american dream” that latine people are actually allowed to access (padilla 42).
